New RTÉ series An Ghig Mhór, celebrates the joy of putting on your first big hometown gig. In each episode, a renowned Irish musician mentors an up-and-coming band, helping them organise and prepare for that first big gig in their hometown.
An Ghig Mhór will provide a platform to new emerging Irish bands and shine a light on all of the hard work, creativity and dedication that goes into organising your own gig.
From Donegal to Kilkenny, the series showcases a different town and band each week. Mentors on the series are Rónán Ó Snodaigh, lead vocalist of Kíla, hip-hop duo Tebi Rex and singer-songwriters John Spillane, Síomha, Eve Belle and vocalist, harpist and pianist, Krea.
The new bands featured on the series are The Donnys from Kilkenny, Singer-songwriter Hannah B and her band from Gaoth Dobhair, Donegal, Na hEasógaí from Conamara in Galway, Leixlip punk-rockers The Hex, Coolboy from Laois and Leevy from the Múscraí Gaeltacht in Cork. Each band has their own unique sound and performs in both English and Irish.
