The 2025 instalment of the Louth Contemporary Music Festival takes place from Friday 13th - Saturday 14th June in venues across Dundalk - below, we recommend five must-see concerts at one of Ireland's most essential music happenings.
Bernhard Lang’s The Cold Trip – Schubert’s Winter Journey, Rewired
When & Where: 8pm, Fri 13th June, An Táin Arts Centre
Lang’s radical reworking of Winterreise fractures Schubert’s lieder into a pulsating labyrinth of loops. The Aleph Guitar Quartet and vocal alchemist Daisy Press blur the lines between past and present, where snowflakes turn to static, and echoes unravel into new worlds.
Chopin's Études, Refracted Through Time
When & Where: 1pm, Sat 14th June, St. Nicholas Church of Ireland
Daan Vandewalle performs Lang’s Monadologie XXXVI, dissecting Chopin’s piano études into shimmering fragments. A Romantic ghost, reborn in the machine—delicate, disruptive, and utterly mesmerizing.
Daisy Press & the Aleph Quartet: Whispers from Another Realm
When & Where: 3pm, Sat 14th June, Chapel at St. Vincent's
Martin Smolka’s Basho floats ancient haikus over rippling guitars, while his world premiere Sanctus Christophorus promises a hymn for uncharted skies—half ritual, half revelation.
Nico's The Marble Index – A Shadowland Reawakened
When & Where: 5pm, Sat 14th June, The Spirit Store
Apartment House resurrects Nico’s 1968 avant-garde masterpiece, where drones hum like monastic chants and melodies dissolve into mist. Darkness has never sounded so luminous.
Chamber Choir Ireland: Songs of the Soul
When & Where: 8pm, Sat 14 June | St. Nicholas Church of Ireland
Kevin Volans' celestial Glosa a lo Divino, Sarah Davachi’s meditative new work Songs of the Smile’s Fig, and Beat Furrer’s enigmatic textures merge in a finale that stitches centuries together - thread by golden thread.
