Fota Wildlife Park celebrates its thirtieth birthday with a summer carnival.
The park opened in the summer of 1983 on a seventy acre site on Fota Island in Cork.
Since that time it has been visited by over seven hundred and fifty thousand people and is home to sixty eight species of mammals and birds, almost four hundred and fifty animals in total.
The cheetahs have been sponsored by RTÉ Cork Local Radio. Cheetahs are an endangered species, but their habitat at Fota Island suits them, as this group is
One of the most successful in the world, in terms of breeding.
'Fota Ireland's Wildlife Park' was broadcast on 26 December 1987. The presenter is Peter Wilson.
