Open eir, the wholesale broadband subsidiary of telecom company eir, has announced it has surpassed 1.4 million homes and businesses with its full fibre-to-the-home broadband network.
The company said it means that around 3.6 million people across Ireland now have access to high-speed, full fibre connectivity.
To date, open eir has deployed more than 50,000 kilometres of fibre infrastructure and earlier this month, the company launched its new 5 gigabit fibre broadband service for all operators.
"Passing 1.4 million homes and businesses with Ireland's largest full fibre network is a major milestone – and a reflection of the expertise, dedication and hard work of our teams nationwide," said Maeve O’Malley, Managing Director of open eir Wholesale.
"The launch of our 5 gigabit broadband service marks the next chapter in Ireland’s digital evolution, delivering the speed, performance and reliability today’s connected lives demand," Ms O'Malley said.
Open eir said its investments, in tandem with the Government’s National Broadband Plan, aim to ensure that by the end of 2028, every home and business in Ireland - covering over 2.4 million premises - will have access to high-speed gigabit broadband.
The company said it will launch a new 100Mb fibre-to-the-home product on 1 July.
