Speaking about his new song, James says, "Feeling Grey is about me growing up and reflecting on my youth as I grew to the mature age of 19! I recorded the album in Monique Recording Studios in Cork with producer Christian Best.

"We worked on most of the tracks ourselves and later got musicians in to share the work load. It was definitely different from my previous time in the studio, I felt more comfortable and willing to actually make things sound different to what I'm used to."

James plays 22 June - Little Whelan’s, Dublin. 29 June - Night and Day Festival, Roscommon, Ireland. 11 July - DeBarras Folk Club, Cork.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I love dogs, stout and seeing other people be happy!

How would you describe your music?

It’s characterised as a raw, acoustic folk-pop sound with tints of rock music backed by heartfelt lyrics, giving it a somewhat easy listening atmosphere!

Who are your musical inspirations?

Glen Hansard, Ben Howard and Sam Fender would definitely be of influence on my music. All great writers that tell personal stories with their own unique sound!

What was the first gig you ever went to?

David Gray in Cork! I was very young and it really inspired me to write songs. He’s an exceptional writer

What was the first record you ever bought?

The first record I ever bought was the Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem, which is a strange one looking back. Loved how out there it was and it was rebellious, so that done it for me.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Once I Was by Tim Buckley is absolutely amazing. It’s actually Jeff Buckley's father, funny enough!

Favourite lyric of all time?

The lyric is from a song called Patience by Damien Dempsey: "Corporations pumpin' all this money into pop, To keep the real singers far away from the top, Some folks are never told what these corporations do, F***in' up the planet, exploiting me and you".

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Hey Bulldog by The Beatles. Timeless tune.
