NFL fans frustrated at huge online ticket queues

Fans attempting to buy tickets for September's NFL game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park experienced online frustration as hundreds of thousands of accounts attempted to complete purchases.

Tickets went on general sale at 12pm via Ticketmaster with prices ranging from €85 to €295, however punters attempting to buy them were greeted with initial queues of more than 600,000 people.

Keen NFL supporters reported of their place in the queue moving up by just a couple of hundred places in the first hour after the sale began, while the holding page was warning of "long" delays of "more than an hour".

Single seats for categories 1-3 (€250+) were still available as of 6pm.

Interest in the game has been intense both in Ireland and abroad. The clash of the Steelers and Vikings is one of just seven to take place outside of the US this year.

The Croke Park encounter is the first regular-season NFL game in Dublin. The Irish Government told RTÉ Sport that it has committed to providing just short of €10m in state funding for the event.

The capacity at GAA headquarters for the one-off event will be reduced to 76,000 as temporary seating is being installed on Hill 16/the Nally Terrace.
