MobLand's writer-creator is Belfast author and screenwriter Ronan Bennett (Day of the Jackal, Top Boy, Public Enemies), who also serves as an executive producer on the hit show.

Bennett's co-writer is The Ferryman playwright Jez Butterworth, whose other screen credits include Spectre and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Dublin-born director Anthony Byrne (Say Nothing, Peaky Blinders, Love/Hate) directed four episodes of season one.

Snatch director Guy Ritchie, who is an executive producer of MobLand, also directed two episodes.

The announcement of a second season was made by Paramount+ on Instagram.

US entertainment trade publication Deadline says the opening episode of MobLand "amassed 26 million views over the first 70 days in the US and other English-speaking markets, where MobLand premiered March 30, and the first nine days for non-English speaking territories, where the show debuted May 30".

Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, described MobLand as "a resounding triumph".

In May, Drogheda-born and Navan-raised Brosnan responded to criticism of his Irish accent in MobLand.

Brosnan told Radio Times: "My own accent is very soft. Conrad's accent is a million miles away from me."

He went on to explain that the inspiration for the accent was a man suggested by his dialect coach, adding: "I told him that I needed a Kerry accent, so he gave me the name of a man, and I googled the guy and that was it.

"It was a Kerry accent, and so I just gave it full tilt."
