An investigation is under way after an ambulance was destroyed by fire while parked close to Sacred Heart Hospital in Co Mayo in the early hours of this morning.
The vehicle was not in use at the time, no patients were affected and no staff were injured.
The incident caused damage to nearby property where the vehicle was parked in Castlebar.
Gardaí responded to the incident and are not treating the fire as suspicious.
An investigation is now under way to establish the cause of the fire.
The Sacred Heart Hospital continues to function normally and National Ambulance Service (NAS) operations for the public are unaffected.
There is a NAS depot at the hospital on the Pontoon Road in Castlebar.
