The impact of homelessness and unstable living conditions on children is catastrophic, the Ombudsman for Children Niall Muldoon will tell the Oireachtas Committee on Housing.
In his opening address to the Committee, Dr Muldoon will say it affects every aspect of children's lives, including education, well-being and self-development.
He is calling for bold, brave measures to address what is a crisis of epic proportions for children in this country, and he is urging politicians to draw up a specific child and family homelessness strategy.
Dr Muldoon will say this could address the unique needs and vulnerabilities of children, ensuring their well-being and rights are prioritised.
He believes that the child and family homelessness strategy must focus on three essential things - prevention, supports in homelessness and delivery of social and affordable housing.
